Unified Security Posture Management
Ignite has brought us a lot of news about product improvements and I was happy to see how much there is incoming to Microsoft’s Security portfolio. Here is the link to the Ignite Book of News 2025 — go read more there!
Defender XDR has been an umbrella term for the whole suite of security functionality. The Unified Security Posture Management builds on top of this by bringing a consolidated view of your security posture across cloud workloads, identities, endpoints, and applications.
What’s New
The key improvements announced at Ignite 2025 around security posture:
Defender Cloud Infrastructure View
There is now a new view in the Assets menu. You can browse Cloud infrastructure directly from the Defender portal. Gaining a unified view to all of your assets improves security operations since portal hopping becomes less needed.
Asset Inventory
The asset inventory list is a comprehensive list of your Cloud assets and gives a single pane of view into them. It’s also good to point out that the different categories also give information about the resources themselves, like whether some resources are running or not.
New Secure Score
The Secure Score experience has been refreshed to give a clearer picture of what matters most:
Limitations
It is important to note that Defender portal views display nothing if you have only Foundational CSPM enabled. You need to pay a bit to get the greatest toys, but in my opinion, Defender CSPM is always a good investment and the price is often quite low compared to the resource spend in the subscriptions.
Conclusion
This was a short post compared to many I’ve written but I think that not all of my posts need to be deep dives into solutions. I also plan to write more Defender related posts in the future since Microsoft is clearly putting a lot of resources and effort into improving the experience.
